My dog, Penny, has a crush. It’s more than a crush, actually.. It’s a crazy, intense, infatuated—well, case of puppy love.
You see, earlier this week she met this piece of wood and it was love at first sight. She picked it up, flirted with it a little, then decided to make it her own. She takes it with her on every walk morning, noon, and night. And when the walk is over and I make her put it down outside the front door. She sits at the door for a few minutes and whines, crying for her beloved.
But it doesn’t take long for Penny to forget all about her favorite attachment when we get back inside. It’s just a few minutes of whining, then she chases the cat, begs for food, cuddles in our laps, and returns to her happy, mischievous puppy self.
When the door opens and it’s time for another walk, she picks up the wood immediately and it starts all over again.
I’ve learned from Penny that it really is possible to leave your attachments (thoughts, desires, ambitions… whatever) outside. You can always pick them up again later.

I love this story! I have learned so many lessons from my dogs : )

Has Penny abandoned the "pine cone" or were you just bad at identifying Flora?
I agree with jamie's statement. There is alot to be learned from dogs but of course the most important lesson is their agape love. When you think about it how many silly trivial things arise in relationships that could be avoided. Its just another lesson from our canine teachers.

I learn something new from Penny everyday…
Penny used to like to walk with a pine cone or a stick.. she'd carry one for a little while, then lose interest and pick something else up. Now she's been walking with this one chunk of wood for several days and she won't drop it for anything.

One thing occurs to me is someone that isn't being "spoiled" is poor Penny. Forced to pick up sticks and pine cones for toys, poor doggie!
I know I have an old sock I can donate and maybe some other readers have a rag or pot-holder they can spare for the Spoil Penny fund.

She has a bazillion toys.. she just likes natural things better. Still, I took her to Pet Food Express and bought her a few new toys because you made me feel guilty. 🙂

my cat is currently having a spring fling with my new carpet. she just rolls back and forth on her back, never caring to scratch or harm the carpet. only purpose: caress it with love. hours of entertainment.

Allyson,
Are you sure there's no catnip in there? My cat loves to rub up on lamps, vases, and other breakable things I wish she would leave alone.. but how can you get upset for her for being a sweet lovey kitty? I need to blog about my kitty next, I think.. Thanks for the idea!
