I asked my friends on Twitter how they motivate themselves to practice at home when they’re in a rut. Their answers were so insightful and helpful, I wanted to share them with you.

When I feel stuck I just sit on my mat and breath. Eventually the asana will come. Or sometimes I simply sit. This morning instead of practicing right away I read a yoga book for a little while then eased into movement.
The other thing I like to do is put a DVD in and be led that way.
This is so interesting to me. Home practice is my favorite way to go! I find stillness in my home far easier than anywhere else. It's ritual, it's personal, and I can wear whatever the hell I want. =)
When wavering, I do a dog pose. Saying to myself, it'll be just that, a long dog pose, that's it. But somehow it allways lures me into the practice 🙂
i still have such a hard time w a "home practice" in terms of asana… i can meditate at home just fine but pulling out my mat seems like a chore. i think its bc i do not have a zen enough place. i'll stick to going to the studio for now =P
missed this tweet too. i do short but sweet. i don't force myself to stick to a time limit or a flow. i always meditate at the end. sometimes that is all i really want to do and i'll end my practice earlier to get on my zafu.
some days all i do is breathe in child's for a few minutes.
I try simple asana pose and yet the most important ones. There are around five of them that I choose 2-3.

I do think when you are in rut, its rather difficult to motivate oneself for anything
